Northern Virginia Theatre Alliance: $1000 scholarship for performance,and $1000 for technical theater. Seniors who will enroll in dramatic/musical theater performance or technical theatre program. Minimum 2.5 GPA. Performance scholarship – 5 minute presentation to include 1 comedy and 1 dramatic monologue or 1 monologue and 1 song followed by short interview. Technical scholarship – submit 3-D presentationin set design or 2-D presentation in lighting design, costume design or makup/hair design at time of interview. (note technical scholarship was not awarded last year – perhaps no one applied).  Deadline Feb 16, 2010    Call Anne Ridgway at (703) 330-2787 for details.    www.nvtaweb.org/scholarship/

Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship: Seniors with GPA 2.8 or higher in Comcast community. Demonstrated leadership in school or work. Strong commitment to community service, planning to attend US college/university/vocational school. Cannont be related to Comcast employees.  Complete resume (include future school, student leadership/extra curricular activities, community service/volunteerism, and work experience) and a personal statement (250 words or less) describing in detail a time when you were able to use your leadership skills. Contact Mrs. Correll (correlse@pwcs.edufor more details and format.  Deadline Dec. 1, 2009 (due to BDHS Couseling Department)

The Lee-Jackson Foundation:This competition is open to juniors and seniors. Scholarships are given for outstanding essays which demonstrate an appreciation of the exemplary character and soldierly virtues of Generals Lee and Jackson. Essays are judged with emphasis on historical accuracy, quality of research, and clarity of written expression. $10,000(1), $2,000(8) and $1,000(18) scholarships will be awarded. Fleet Reserves Associations (FRA) Branch 207 – Prince William:Americanism Essay Contest for Grades 7 - 12 Theme: What Memorial Day Means to Me. National Grand Prize of a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond, with $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000. Savings Bonds awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each grade category. All regional winners are judged at the national level and receive a certificate of recognition. Other prizes are awarded at the branch and regional levels. Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund: Essay (500-1000 words): Who is your Idol and how he/she influenced/impacted your life (individual cannot be a relative).  Must be a senior, who is a US citizen, with a minimum 2.5 GPA going to four year college in US. Student must have demonstrated leadership abilities in community service or extra curricula activities. Application must be received by March 31, 2010 .   Two letters of recommendation and financial aid report required. Janice M. Scott perished in the pentagon bombing 9/11/01. 
Dominion Power:Strong Men & Women:Excellence in Leadership. This competition is open to juniors and seniors who live in the Dominion Power Service Area. Washington Regional Transplant Community(WRTC) "Legacy of Life" competition.  Scholarships: $5,000 (1), $3,000(1), $1,000(6).   Deadline midnight, March 31 2010.   Theme: "Organ & Tissue Donation: Persuade Someone to Give the Gift of a Lifetime" - 1,000 word (or less) original persuasive arguement - fiction or nonfiction with sources cited. www.beadonor.org/scholarship has last year's winning essays.  (Brentsville has had a past winner).

VA: Norfolk State University  Dozoretz Scholar - 4 year tuition, room and board and books - eligibility requirements: 1500/2100 SAT or 22 ACT and min. 3.2GPA.  Application Deadline Jan 31, 2010.  Must study math or applied sciences.  2 page application + 500 word essay.  Parsons Scholars - partial to full scholarships (tuition)  Minimum 3.0 gpa, 1000/1600 SAT or 21 ACT, all majors, fill out 2 page application and 500-1000 word essay.  Guaranteed summer internships. VA: VA Tech (2010-2011)  Pamplin Leader Award $1000 for one BDHS Student! – merit based   Minimum 3.75 gpa and/or top 10% of class, all majors, fill out 2 page application. VA: James Madison University (2010-2011) Thomas and Karyn Dingledine Scholarships:     Full in-state tuition (currently $6,964) for four years at JMU.   Six awards annually.  Application and recommendations must be postmarked no later than November 1, 2009.  Early Action freshman application to JMU is required. Madison Achievement Scholarships:  Award amounts vary from $2,000 for two years to $500 for one year.   Approximately 50 awards annually.   Second Century Scholarships: This program financially supports exemplary students entering any of the following STEM majors: Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Engineering, Geographic Science, Geology, Information Analysis, Integrated Science and Technology, Math, Physics, Statistics.   The amount of the scholarship is set at 75 percent of in-state tuition of the year recipients enter the university and continues at this amount for four years. http://www.jmu.edu/admissions/scholarships/

VA: Radford University (2010-2011) Presidential Scholarships (New Freshmen Only):
To qualify for consideration, students must apply by December 15 and achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and combined critical reading and math SAT I scores of 1180 (or higher), or an ACT score of 26 (or higher).

Local: Northern Va Community College - Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP) - Grant that covers the cost of tuition, fees, and $500 for books. Students must be a VA resident pursuing a post-secondary degree at a public institution in VA. Northern Virginia Community College Educational Fund Scholarships range from emergency loans to full-tuition scholarships.  Obtain application from   the financial aid webiste at http://www.nvcc.edu/finance  or the NVCC financial aid office.

VA: Shenandoah University - Winchester VA-    Presidential Scholarship - highly selective, limited scholarship available to incoming freshmen - minimum high school GPA of 3.8 and SAT score of 1200. Scholastic and community activities are also considered in the evaluation. Recipients receive $16,000 annually for four years, must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and enroll in at least 12 credit hours a semester. Students cannot receive both a Presidential Scholarship and an Academic Scholarship. No additional application is required; eligibility is determined based upon a student’s application for admission to the university.
