Intermarkets-Lucido Journalism Scholarship:   $5000.  Graduating VA high school senior majoring in Journalism at a 4 year college or university.   Provide two published articles or graded essays that reflect the candidate’s writing style, Submit an essay (approx. 200 words) that answers the question: "What are three character traits that a journalist should have and why?", Submit an essay that takes a current article from a major U.S. newspaper that the candidate views as biased reporting/journalism and describes in 500+ words why it is biased and how it should be changed. Prince William Education Association Deloris C. Hampton Future teacher Scholarship:
$2000 ($500 a year for four years). Prince William County Senior or Graduate accepted into a teacher preparation program. Applications are available in guidance and require high school transcript, activities, employment, and two letters of recommendation, as well as household income, and a paragraph stating your reason for pursuing a post secondary education and a paragraph stating why you are deserving of this scholarship  Deadline:4pm March 26, 2010  

 Prince William Education Association - Member Depenedent Scholarship:Must be a dependent of an active PWEA member accepted into a two or four year accredited institution of higher learning.  Applications are available in guidance and require high school transcript, activities, employment, and two letters of recommendation, as well as household income, and a paragraph stating your reason for pursuing a post secondary education and a paragraph stating why you are deserving of this scholarship  Deadline:4pm March 26, 2010    

Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS):
The 2010 WITS Program will award multiple scholarships that value up to $2,500 per recipient. Nine total awards were granted in 2009 for college or university study. The program supports women who are enrolled, or accepted into, either a two or four year college or university within the United States for the 2010 school year. These individuals must be planning a career in information technology or a related field.  Vocational Education Foundation - Red Lawson Scholarship: Three $1000 scholarships. Senior who will have completed a Career and Technical Education Program (CTE). Must have “B” or better in CTE courses. Scholarship is for college, community college, trade school, or other institute of higher learning. Complete application and requested essay and return it to guidance by Deadline: March 9, 2010  Pick up application in guidance.

Maude E. Wallace Scholarship 2010:
Applicants must be seniors, who are US citizens attending college in VA and who are in need of financial assistance. $1000 scholarship. Application must be accompanied by transcript, letter of college acceptance, and letter from two sources who can provide information on financial need, scholastic and leadership abilities and activities.  Ella G. Agnew Scholarship: High school senior studying nursing or field related to medical profession $1000 scholarship, who are US citizens attending college in VA and who are in need of financial assistance. $1000 scholarship. Application must be accompanied by transcript, letter of college acceptance, and letter from two sources who can provide information on financial need, scholastic and leadership abilities and activities. Armenian Education Scholarships: 9th – 12th graders $1000 scholarship. Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923 is an historical fact. Present day government of Turkey still denies that it happened. Use credible resources, including primary sources, showing that the Armenian Genocide occurred.  Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) Educational Foundation:Four - $1,000 Scholarships in Virginia. Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District will choose one applicant to submit to the state pool. Goal:To promote the education of Virginia citizens in technical fields with natural resource conservation and environmental protection. To give financial support to students majoring in or showing a strong desire to major in a course curriculum related to natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies.Deadline: March 3, 2010  Return Application To:

Chick Evans Caddie Scholarships:Each year more than 200 new deserving caddies attend college on tuition and housing grants from the Evans Scholars Foundation. To qualify, caddies must be nominated by their club and meet four requirements:
  • Strong caddie record:  Candidates must have caddied, successfully and regularly, for a minimum of two years and also expected to caddie and/or work at their sponsoring club during the summer when they apply for the scholarship.
  • Excellent academics:  Candidates must have completed their junior year of high school with above a B average in college preparatory courses and are required to take the ACT.
  • Demonstrated financial need:  Candidates must clearly establish their need for financial assistance.

National Beef Ambassador Program: a national, competitive youth public speaking program for the beef industry. National Society of Black Engineers - DC Alumni Extension: Future Innovators Scholarship: A merit-based scholarship awarded to an African-American graduating high school senior(s) planning to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. $1,000 scholarship(s) are awarded to student(s) who NSBE-AEDC feels will demonstrate the greatest promise as a future scientific/technical professional. Best Buy @15 Scholarship:Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program will award 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each to students in grades 9-12. We're looking for folks with solid grades, who are involved in volunteer efforts in their schools and communities, and/or have a work history. Society of Women Engineers – Balt. Washington Section: Young women (seniors) who plan to major in engineering with an overall grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent. Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Assoc. (AFCEA NOVA) Scholarship:  Merit-based scholarship grants to DC area students who are pursuing degrees or advanced training in technical fields such as: Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Natural/Physical sciences, and other technology-related fields supportive of our National Security. Scholars receive a one-time $4,000 scholarship award if they are full-time students; a $2,000 scholarship if they are part-time students. Northern Virginia Theatre Alliance: $1000 scholarship for performance,and $1000 for technical theater. Seniors who will enroll in dramatic/musical theater performance or technical theatre program. Minimum 2.5 GPA. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund: Essay (500-1000 words): Who is your Idol and how he/she influenced/impacted your life (individual cannot be a relative).  Must be a senior, who is a US citizen, with a minimum 2.5 GPA going to four year college in US. Student must have demonstrated leadership abilities in community service or extra curricula activities. Application must be received by March 31, 2010 .   Two letters of recommendation and financial aid report required. Janice M. "Legacy of Life"  Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC)  Scholarships: $5,000 (1), $3,000(1), $1,000(6).   Deadline midnight, March 31 2010.   Theme: "Organ & Tissue Donation: Persuade Someone to Give the Gift of a Lifetime" - 1,000 word (or less) original persuasive arguement - fiction or nonfiction with sources  cited.

VA: Norfolk State University  Dozoretz Scholar - 4 year tuition, room and board and books - eligibility requirements: 1500/2100 SAT or 22 ACT and min. 3.2GPA.  Application Deadline Jan 31, 2010.  Must study math or applied sciences.  2 page application + 500 word essay.  Parsons Scholars - partial to full scholarships (tuition)  Minimum 3.0 gpa, 1000/1600 SAT or 21 ACT, all majors, fill out 2 page application and 500-1000 word essay.  Guaranteed summer internships. National Commission for Cooperative Education: 170 - $6,000 Merit scholarships.   Must attend one of the following colleges: Drexel Univ., Johnson & Wales Univ., Kettering Univ., Pace Univ., Rochester Institute of Technolgy, Univ. of Cincinnati, Univ. of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Application and Essay due Feb. 15, 2010.  Early submission strongly encouraged     
Local: Northern Va Community College - Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP) - Grant that covers the cost of tuition, fees, and $500 for books. Students must be a VA resident pursuing a post-secondary degree at a public institution in VA. Northern Virginia Community College Educational Fund Scholarships range from emergency loans to full-tuition scholarships.  Obtain application from   the financial aid webiste at http://www.nvcc.edu/finance  or the NVCC financial aid office. VA: Shenandoah University - Winchester VA-    Presidential Scholarship - highly selective, limited scholarship available to incoming freshmen - minimum high school GPA of 3.8 and SAT score of 1200. Scholastic and community activities are also considered in the evaluation. Recipients receive $16,000 annually for four years, must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and enroll in at least 12 credit hours a semester. Students cannot receive both a Presidential Scholarship and an Academic Scholarship.
