Why Join PTAC?

Joining the PTAC does not obligate you to volunteer at school or attend PTAC meetings—although we hope you will!

The number one reason to join the PTAC is to benefit your student.  But there are many more advantages.  Here are just a few:

Be A Role Model. More than 30 years' worth of research has proven that students do better when their parents are involved both at home and at school. Set a good example for your kids by being involved yourself. By becoming a PTAC member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.

Get Connected.  There’s no better way to know what’s happening at Brentsville, be it new courses, new programs, security issues, or school community activities.  Better communication with teachers and administrators benefits everyone. The principal attends all PTAC meetings and gives us information about changes and issues affecting the school.

Speak Up.  Because the PTAC is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTAC can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.

Be a Part of the Solution.  PTAC plays an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs and social events – all vital to a school’s success.

Build Community.  PTAC brings faculty, students and parents together to build a strong, positive community for the students.

PTAC funds and supports student incentive programs and scholarships….

In response to a faculty request, PTAC donated $100 to a new mentoring program.
This program seeks to identify students that do not have a relationship with any teachers beyond the day to day interaction in the classroom. The attendance records and grades of these students would be reviewed to learn if there is a correlation and if so, the interested teachers would reach out to some of these students. Finally, the attendance records and grades would be reviewed again after a period of time to ascertain whether or not mentoring had a positive effect.

PTAC purchased the $365 3-day pass for
Officer Lavely to attend the upcoming
School Resource Officer /School Safety Conference

PTAC donated $50 to the library for the purchase of gift card incentives for Teen Read Week 2008

PTAC paid registration fees for four student members of the
Future Business Leaders of America
to represent BDHS at the June 2009
FBLA National Leadership Conference.

PTAC donated $1,000 to the BDHS Scholarship Fund
Two students were selected by the
Guidance Office to receive $500 each.
Congratulations to the 2009 Recipients

Shauna Walter
Well done!

SIGN UP TO WORK NISSAN PAVILION CONCESSIONS
TO SUPPORT AFTER PROM 2011!

This lucrative fundraiser involves BDHS Volunteers running a Nissan Pavilion concessions stand.  We serve food, work the cash register, pour beer, etc.  It's a lot of work but we have fun and enjoy working as a team. Sometimes we even hear the concerts!

We earn 5-6% of the gross receipts of the stand, plus tips.  We need many volunteers to keep this successful without overburdening anyone, so we’ve added incentives to participate:
~ Volunteers that work 3 or more Nissan Concerts this summer will earn ONE FREE ticket for Prom 2010.
~ Volunteers that work 6 or more concerts will earn TWO FREE prom tickets.

The funds are used for the After Prom party.  The mission of After Prom is to entice teens away from the high-risk activities associated with prom night by offering a FREE all-night party with entertainment and exciting prizes in a supervised, drug and alcohol free environment.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and TIPS certified.  TIPS certification is achieved by attending a 2-hour training in the prevention of alcohol sales to minors and intoxicated people.  There are several training sessions available.
